Who Conducts the OET Exam.
The OET is conducted by Cambridge Box Hill Language Assessment, a joint venture between Cambridge Assessment English and Box Hill Institute.

Writing:
As part of the OET writing paper, candidates must write a letter, usually a letter of recommendation. For some professions, a specific type of letter is required, for example, a letter of discharge or transfer, or a letter advising a patient, caregiver, or group. Each candidate receives case notes that must be included in their letter.
Listening:
There are two parts to the OET listening test. Part A consists of listening to a simulated consultation (dialogue) between a professional and a patient and taking notes under specific headings. Speaking:
The OET speaking test consists of a one-to-one conversation with an interlocutor. First, the candidate is interviewed about their professional background in a short warm-up interview. They are then asked to participate in two role plays.
For each role-play, candidates are given two to three minutes to prepare. During role-plays, patients and health professionals simulate typical interactions. Roles play last about five minutes. Interviewers play patients or relatives or carers, and candidates adopt their usual professions (e.g. as nurses). In the case of veterinary science, the interviewer usually does a role-play as an owner or caregiver of the animal.
Reading:
There are two parts to the reading test. During Part A, candidates will skim read 3 to 4 short texts and fill in missing words in a summary paragraph. The test is designed to test the reader’s ability to scan multiple texts within a set time limit, to synthesize information from multiple texts, and to source information from multiple texts. Part B, lasting 45 minutes, requires candidates to read and answer 8–10 multiple-choice questions on selected passages related to general healthcare topics. The purpose of this test is to check a person’s ability to read and comprehend longer texts.
Grades and Standards:
OET contains four subtests, each of which is graded from A to E, where A is the highest and E is the lowest. No overall grade is assigned.
